Glossary of Terms

Album
An album is a collection of tracks put together on an audio support.
Archive
An archive album is an album which is not commercially available and can only be found at a specific location.
Arrangement
An arrangement is the orchestration of a variation for specific instruments.
Bootleg
A bootleg album is an album that was not officially released by the artist, or under other legal authority.
Cover Version
A cover version is a new arrangement of an original track, made by other author(s) than those of the original track.
Discography
A discography is a collection of albums related to a person, band or orchestra.
Edition
An edition corresponds to an album release. A second or subsequent edition is an album release with the same contents as the first edition.
Evocation
An evocation is a short inclusion of a theme within a track (often intended as a homage to the original theme).
Exclusivity
An exclusivity is a Track which only appears on the current album.
Filmography
A filmography is a collection of movies related to a person.
Inedit
An inedit is a Track which appeared for the first time on the current album.
Library
A library album is an album of library music (aka production music or stock music), i.e. recorded music produced and owned by production music libraries and licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media. It is not available through the usual sales channels.
Musicography
A musicography is a collection of tracks related to a person, band or orchestra.
Original Track
An original track is a track in the form as it was originally performed.
Re-recording
A re-recording is a re-interpretation of a Track based on exactly the same partiture. On this site, a re-recording appears under the "Other Performances" section on the detail page of the Track.
Remix (RMX)
A remix (RMX for short) is a re-use of a track, mixed in a different way as part of another track, often by other author(s) than those of the original track.
Reproduction
A reproduction is a re-interpretation of a Track using instruments matching as close as possible the original ones. It is usually undertaken when the original partiture is not publicly available, and so the original instruments must be guessed by the arranger, or when the same instruments are not available. On this site, a reproduction appears under the "Other Performances" section on the detail page of the Track.
Revision
A revision is a new arrangement of an original track, made by the same author(s) as the original track.
Soundtrack
A soundtrack is a collection of tracks related to a movie.
Theme
A theme is a melody, a sequence of notes.
Track
A track is the performance of an arrangement.
Variation
A variation is a piece of music made up of one or more themes.
