Director Phil Joanou: "In come the flutes and oboes and those opening notes, and I will not lie to you: I got choked up. It was the first time I'd heard it as an orchestra. Tears glistening in my eyes, chills down the back of my neck, and in that moment, that's when STATE OF GRACE became STATE OF GRACE. Just strictly for me, without his score the movie isn't the movie. I think whatever staying power or resonance the movie might have, it honestly is 98 percent due to his score. Because I think that he's a genius, and he's one of a kind. And when you take that imprint and put it on top of a work, it automatically elevates it into that area. I'm telling you, whenever anyone talks about STATE OF GRACE, I always chuckle in my mind, and I think to myself: Ennio." (2017 2CD booklet, page 14)
